Even though it doesn’t have a premiere date yet, Fargo Season 2 is one of the most anticipated TV events of 2015. And if fans of the series weren’t already excited enough, this casting news should pump them up. As first reported by EW.com, actor/director Adam Arkin has joined the cast of Fargo Season 2. Per EW, Arkin will play the character of mob boss Hamish Broker, who is described as a “‘mid-level manager in the Kansas City crime syndicate’ (but is likely the highest-ranking member of the crime organization that we’ll actually see).” In addition, Arkin will also be directing the

FX’s Fargo was easily one of the best things to air on TV in 2014, and fans of the show have been waiting patiently for the second season of Noah Hawley’s anthology series. And even though there’s still a bit more waiting ahead (Fargo doesn’t return until October), FX has treated us to the first official trailer for Fargo Season 2, and doncha know, it looks pretty terrific. As has already been reported, the second season of Fargo will travel back in time to the 1970s and tell another original story with a different set of characters and a brand

After over a year, the small screen version of the Coens’ famed film Fargo is finally gracing our televisions once again. Showrunner Noah Hawley has so gracefully captured the Coen style and translated it to the small screen that one might wonder if the Coens would ever consider jumping to the small screen themselves. From the soundtrack (nice little O Brother Where Art Thou? reference at the end there) to the style, the shots and the dialogue, Hawley may have been party to a second lightning strike with Season 2 of Fargo. This week on Fargo: Rye Gerhardt (Kieran Culkin) is sent on a

Fargo is one of those shows that doesn’t totally make sense right away. After only two episodes, you can end up finding yourself thinking “Where on Earth is this going?!” Although in this particular case, that answer might be “nowhere on Earth.” But, it always makes sense in the long term, as events begin to slowly weave in between one another and become a cohesive story. “Before The Law” begins to slowly intertwine the plot and character threads as they realize they have everything to do with each other. This week on Fargo: Ed stays home from work to clean the house up.

Fargo operates in a really surprising way sometimes. What I’ve noticed is that Fargo can take some of its main plot threads and weave them together in a way that makes complete sense. Even further, what “The Myth of Sysiphus” accomplishes is threading those plots so quickly and seamlessly that it pushes the story beyond the scope of predictability. Fargo‘s unpredictability comes from going far beyond the story viewers are expecting. This week on Fargo: Lou Solverson heads up to Fargo after they find Rye Gerhardt’s fingerprints on the murder weapon. Though he finds an ally, the Gerhardts remain uncooperative. With so much story told in the first three episodes, I genuinely wondered where Fargo would go in the time it has remaining. After “Fear and Trembling,” I’m even more curious where the story will go. But, based on the way that Keith Carradine’s iteration of Lou Solverson told it in Season 1, I’m expecting that there will be a LOT of blood. What “Fear and Trembling” accomplished was simply to push the plot where we were all expecting it to go, and give some fantastic character moments and Emmy clips along the way. This week on Fargo: Dodd Gerhardt’s past moves into his

It’s no secret that Fargo Season 2 has got fans and critics alike eagerly anticipating what’s coming next. We’re not quite halfway through the season, and anticipation is building in every area. In a big departure from his last few television roles, Brad Garrett joined the cast of Fargo Season 2, portraying Joe Bulo, a middle manager for the Kansas City mafia, who has played a prominent role so far this year on the FX series. In a conference call with reporters last week, Garrett talked about what drew him to the role, previewd what’s coming next for Bulo, and even touched on his Everybody

Well, we are now halfway through the sophomore run of Fargo, and it seems we are finally receiving the bloodbath we were promised. This was an episode that I had been waiting for, and I was not disappointed. Fargo‘s bloodbath also proved to be an action-packed episode with some incredible character work involved, and it built the season-long tension to an all-time high. This week on Fargo: Peggy takes Ed’s words to heart, but it might be too late. Lou is on guard duty as Ronald Reagan (Bruce Campbell) tours their state for his presidential campaign. The Gerhardts learn that Ed is “responsible” for Rye’s

Fargo is just stunning, isn’t it? I mean, it truly blows me away. It’s visually stunning. The dialogue is impeccable. It has funny moments. It has sad moments. It’s an all-around compelling drama series. Even the music is a cut above anything else on television now (and don’t think I’m oblivious to those O Brother Where Art Thou? songs. I’m on to you, Hawley). Fargo’s second season has been nothing but an enjoyable ride. This week on Fargo: The Gerhardts all ride to Minnesota to rescue Charlie and finish off Ed, once and for all. Will Fargo be returning for Season 3 on FX? You betcha. FX renewed Noah Hawley’s anthology series for a third season on Monday, calling the show as the “most critically-acclaimed television of 2015” according to Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. “Year two of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us,” FX president Eric Schrier said in a statement. “Our thanks to Noah, Warren, Joel & Ethan, John and our partners at MGM Television for making Fargo such a memorable and rewarding journey.” Hawley, along

Well. We WERE promised a bloodbath. Fargo has seemed to barely scratch the surface in terms of how crazy things are going to get, but this episode (I’ll try to avoid typing the title 100 times) really started pushing things faster and farther than I imagined. There’s an incredible tension in between the lines of this episode, and it builds and builds with each passing moment. This week on Fargo: Lou and Hank visit the Gerhardts to try and make a deal. While they’re gone, Lou sends Karl and Sonny to keep an eye on Betsy and Molly. Floyd Gerhardt reluctantly feeds the police

I noticed that Ed and Peggy were conspicuously underused in last week’s great episode of Fargo. As great as the episode was, it was missing two of Season 2’s best characters. “Loplop,” in a slight departure from the previously linear story arc, clues us in to Ed and Peggy’s missing time, and gives us a sense of how the bloodbath in Sioux Falls will come to happen. This week on Fargo: In a timeline concurrent with last week’s episode, Hanzee continues his hunt of Ed and Peggy. While Fargo‘s trip back in time to the 1970s has certainly made for a groovy (and incredible and excellent and a whole list of other adjectives) second season, the FX series will be returning to the present day for Season 3. In a recent article on EW.com, Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley opened up about what fans can expect from the new season, including its time period and whether or not we’ll see any familiar faces. “It’s more contemporary,” Hawley said, regarding the setting and time for Fargo Season 3. “It’s set a couple years after Season 1.” So with Season 3 happening

Umm….whoa! I think if I left my review at that, people would mostly get the message, right? Lucky for everyone, I can word vomit all over the place, especially when shows are this good. Fargo has been really excellent this season, but even more so this week, as we reached the promised “Sioux Falls Massacre.” “The Castle” was tense, bloody, amusing, and all-around well crafted, and made for an exciting penultimate installment of Fargo‘s second season. I try to think if I could ask for more from a series, and I really don’t think that’s possible. This week on Fargo: As things escalate in Sioux

Fargo can truly be a moving, beautiful show. I mean amongst all the blood and death, creator Noah Hawley clearly has an appreciation of the “good guys.” For all of the worldly chaos, the good guys win, and even though all must exist in the terrible world, some make out better than others. I must admit, I expected a lot more death than what occurred in “Palindrome,” but with the unseen, the story was told far better than I could’ve imagined. Fargo fans will have to wait quite a long time to see what the Emmy-winning FX drama has in store for them next. Season 3 of the series won’t arrive on TV until 2017 showrunner Noah Hawley said on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. “The reality is you won’t see it in 2016,” Hawley said. “It’s a winter show for better or worse. There is not time to shoot another year before this winter is over.” Hawley also stressed the importance of the Fargo writing process, stating that the show’s writers “take our time and break the whole story.” He wants

A heck of a lot of characters died throughout Fargo‘s terrific second season in many different ways. There were shootings, stabbings, hit and runs, and even aliens, all of these elements playing big roles in the demises of some of this season’s most major players and even with some its least memorable characters as well. Fargo doesn’t pick favorites, though, and now matter what part a character played in Season 2, if he or she bit the bullet, they were remembered in the video below. Before we get to the new Fargo Season 3 trailer let’s talk about the show as a whole.  Did anyone think this show was going to make it when it first came out?  The degree of skepticism I personally had was pretty deep.  I loved the Coen Brothers movie but it was hard to picture a realistically successful show to come out of it.  Granted the premise of Carrie and her tales as a police officer in Brainerd could make sense, it just didn’t feel like the show could live up to the movie.  What I’ve discovered and so have

I mentioned this a few days ago but Fargo is a show that has done an excellent job of completely separating itself from the film. I’m not referring to the fact that it’s got a similar setting or a few character names that match up, but that is a completely independent extension of the film. Noah Hawley has so far brought us two great seasons of Fargo thus far, and given Ewan McGregor’s new dual role, the third is one of the most anticipated TV shows of the year. I’ve always said that any movie can be made 100 times better with the right music.  Some movies there’s simply no hope for but there are other movies that are made infinitely better by the correct usage of music.  The same goes for television shows.  Imagine how Shawshank Redemption would have been had Thomas Newman not scored that movie?  Think about how different it would have felt.  What if John Williams never scored Jaws?  What would we have had? Like I said, some movies and shows are just poorly acted and directed so there’s zero hope.  But it’s my contention

Why The Show Fargo is Better than the Movie Fargo

When Season 1 of the FX show Fargo premiered, fans of the movie Fargo were both excited and skeptical. When we met Lester Nygaard we could not fail to see the similarities between this character and Jerry Lundegard from the movie. Martin Freeman’s accent and appearance paid homage to William H. Macy reminding us of the movie, so that was a great start to plant us right dab center back in the Fargo universe. Just this time the nebbish unhappy salesman has Lorne Malvo to light his violent fire and help him become more of the awful person he really

For a lucky few, however, a combination of timing, talent, and the right role allow an actor to jump right into the spotlight of a major production. While these instances are rare, they can allow fans to see an actor grow and develop as they adjust to the fame that comes with high profile roles. In the Fargo universe, there are good guys, bad guys, and middle of the roaders of weak moral fiber who are “turned” by situations. Season 3 does not disappoint. There is Gloria Burgle the hero, Varga and Co. who are the villains and Sy, Emmit, and to a point Ray who epitomize to the theory of moral relativism. They are good until life gets not so good, and then they show their true colors. In Fargo Season 3; however, we meet one unique character who came along and broke the Fargo mold, Nikki Swango.
